Female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery (FPMRS) is a recognized and board certifiable subspecialty. This field was previously know as female urology or urogynecology. Board certification was introduced because this specialty has become so highly complex and it is important to ensure that physicians practicing this specialty receive the appropriate training. FPMRS  physicians have advanced training and special experience in issues related to the female pelvic floor, such as:

  • Urinary incontinence
  • Overactive bladder (urgency, frequency, waking at night, trouble holding urine)
  • Pelvic organ prolapse (dropped bladder, uterus or vaginal tissue)
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Blood in urine
  • Urinary retention (unable to urinate)
  • Fecal incontinence or soiling

Women who have any of the conditions above should seek care or second opinion from an expert in female pelvic medicine who has the certification FPMRS.

Virginia Urology Women’s Health has the following staff to help;

  • David B. Glazier, MD,FPMRS
  • Meghana Gowda, MD, FPMRS
  • Quinn  K.  Lippmann, MD, MPH,FPMRS
  • Bruce C. Rowe, MD, FACS, FPMRS
  • Katherine Oxford, DPT
  • Laura Broman, PT

  • Kara Parker, WHNP
