What Is an Enlarged Prostate?

An enlarged prostate is also known as Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH).  This is a non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate gland.

Typically, this enlargement occurs as men age, and over 17 million men in the United States currently are experiencing an enlarged prostate. It’s estimated that at least half of men over 50 are affected. Symptoms that may accompany an enlarged prostate include:

  • Frequent Urination
  • Issues fully emptying the bladder
  • Urges to urinate suddenly
  • A weak urine stream
  • Nighttime urination
