No Shave November or Movember?

Posted: November 8, 2013

If you look around these days and see some rather scruffy, unshaven faces, it’s for a good reason. This is to bring awareness to Prostate and Testicular cancer.  All over the world men are changing their faces in hopes to change men’s thinking about being checked for prostate cancer and doing self exams for testicular cancer. Since prostate cancer affects 1 in 6 men in the general population and 1 in 4 men in the African American population it is important the men know the facts and take charge of their health.  Discussions about prostate cancer should start at age 40 if you have a family history of prostate cancer or if you are African American, age 50 for all others.  Testicular cancer is the most diagnosed cancer in men ages 24 to 35. Men should do self exams on a regular basis starting in their teens.  So, remember if you see those unshaven men around during the month of November, it’s for a  great cause!
